About the Scholarships and Charities Team
It all started in 1986 when the Coastside Women's club took on the challenge of giving back to our community...
The Coastside Women’s Clubs primary goal is to responsibly distribute the money raised throughout the year through a variety of CWC events and fundraisers, and our Marketplace Sponsors and private donations. The continued faithful efforts of CWC members have been rewarded with much success and provided significant donations to groups and individuals in our community.
The Scholarship and Charities Committee considers new requests made by local charities, continuing gifts made to previous recipients, and determines which groups will receive a grant. In the Spring of each year, we meet to interview HMB High seniors who have been selected by the school as candidates for a college scholarship. We then select the students we feel the most deserving and recognize each with a gift at HMB High School Scholarship Award night in May. After receiving necessary enrollment documentation, our treasurer distributes the scholarship amount to the student.
In May 2018, CWC awarded eight, $3,000 scholarships, for a total of
$24,000. In addition, the Charitable Grants were announced: ALAS, $3,000
Coastside Child Development Center, $3,000
Coastside Hope, $3,000
Adopt-a-Family, $1,000 HMB Backpack Drive, $1,000
Moonridge Reading Stars, $1,000
Puente de la Costa Sur, $3,000
Pescadero Backpack Drive, $500
Sonrisas Community Dental Center, $3,000
Total Scholarships and Charitable Grants: $42,500
As CWC committee members, we enjoy getting to know the folks behind the charities that we support and spending time with the wonderful scholarship candidates from HMB high. Based on the thank you notes and letters that we have received over the years, our efforts to raise funds and give back are much needed and appreciated. Working together to benefit Half Moon Bay is a great experience for our membership.
